Finger Prints of God

Today put us one step closer in our adoption journey.  We had to go to USCIS (Homeland Security) for fingerprinting so that we can be approved to bring Esther home and that our government can make sure everything is clear on her case.  As we were sitting in that room waiting for our number to be called I looked around and saw many faces and none of them looked like mine.  Most of them were immigrants wanting desperately to become citizens of the US.  We take for granted that each day we are citizens here and don’t have anything to fight for or worry about.  These families come here for a better life and work hard and help their extended families and those that weren’t fortunate enough to come here with them.
Yet, as Americans, we look right past them or we make remarks about why they are here.  They are here because they love their families and want to help them and better themselves and find freedom from poverty, slavery, filth and devastation. Who are we to judge these people?  “You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.” Romans 2:1
Why are we not helping them, driving them, feeding them and being a Godly example to those that don’t know our God?  Why would they want to worship a God like ours who’s people turn their backs or them and snub them at every turn? Our fingerprints are the same as theirs – given by God and one of kind and fearfully and wonderfully made.  Take a stand to be the change you want to see not in the world but in your own neighborhood, work place, coffee shop and church!

Fingerprinting also reminded me of the song by Steven Curtis Chapman and the words are so fitting for these families and for our sweet baby girl!

“Never has there been and never again
Will there be another you
Fashioned by God's hand and perfectly planned
To be just who you are
And what He's been creating
Since the first beat of your heart
Is a living, breathing
Priceless work of art

And I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know it's true
You're a masterpiece that all creation
Quietly applauds
And you're covered with
The fingerprints of God”

There is a group in Haiti called the Apparent Project and they are families that are struggling to survive and they make beautiful jewelry out of junk (cereal boxes, news paper, magazines) and sell it to help better their families. I have been given the opportunity to partner with them and help their lives and our adoption fund. If you would like a bracelet let me know – they are $8 and you would be changing the life of a Haitian family as well as ours!  http://apparentproject.org/jewelrymakers.html
