The doctor told us he would send a nurse out every hour to
give us an update and that an average surgery is 2 ½ hours but he expected ours
to be double that.
She went into surgery at 11:00am (an hour late because she
was wheezing and had to have a breathing treatment first). Chris went to pick up lunch for us, we ate
and at noon the nurse came out and said he got in and things looked good and
Esther was doing fine. At 1:00pm (two
hours after they started) the nurse came out and we were expecting our ½ way
through update. Instead, she said, “
doctor is closing up now, things went GREAT and he will meet you in a
consultation room in about fifteen minutes and then you will be able to see her
in recovery.”
We were in SHOCK! Not only did he finish in two hours but
that was quicker than the “average” surgery.
The nurse told us that Dr. Bauer is a miracle worker but we know we have
a God that is our miracle worker and working through Dr. Bauer’s hands!
We met with the
doctor and he told us he went in and it was just as he expected, lots of bone
to drill through but then “by the grace of God I was able to get the implant
right in!” She will get the head wrap
off in the morning, can’t wash hair for three days or get water in her ear for
six weeks (which is horrible timing in the summer). The doctor was so optimistic about this
procedure that he began talking to us about doing the other ear! We headed to recovery where she ate a popsicle, drank juice and shared some Cheezits with the anesthesiologist and we were discharged and home by 2:30pm!
Thanks again to
everyone for praying us through this surgery!
“Therefore I tell
you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will
be yours.” Mark 11:24
Blessings,
Tiff
